Arriving Indonesia

The first impression that you will get of Indonesia is of tropical luxuriance and warmth. You will also notice immediately that it has a well developed tourist industry, although this is much less evident in the more remote areas. Take time to acclimatise. The difference in climate, culture and food can be rather overwhelming. Let it sink in gently at a pace that you find comfortable. Welcome to Indonesia!

Most international travelers arrive via the Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport about 15ml (25km) west of the Jakarta city. The majority of international flights to Indonesia come through this airport.

1. Disembark plane, those who do not posses but need a visa may queue for Visa-on-Arrival (VoA)

2. Those with visa (or not requiring any visa) may proceed down the hall to the immigration.

3. After you clear immigration, you may proceed to baggage claim.

4. You need to go through custom inspection. Hand-in customs declaration form to the officer and screen all carry-on baggage. Only 1 (one) declaration form is required per group/family.

Departing

Airport Departure Tax (also called Passenger Service Charge-PSC) – All passengers departing on international flights from Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (as well as other airports in Indonesia) will have to pay separate Airport Tax at the airline check-in counter for your departure flight. After you paid, the airline staff will put a stamp on your boarding pass that shows you have paid.

The airport tax at Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta is Rp 150,000 per person (international), and Rp 40,000 for those on domestic routes, so be sure to stash away enough to pay it.
